Massage is the oldest form of natural healing there is. Many different traditions and approaches have developed over the years and it has benefits on many levels.
On a physical level, massage can relax tight muscles, improve circulation, encourage removal of toxins and increase flexibility. On other levels, massage is a deeply relaxing experience that can promote a feeling of calm, increase awareness and confidence, clear the mind and lead to greater wellbeing.
Reflexology is a gentle, simple, but highly effective way of encouraging the body’s own natural self-healing ability. It uses varying pressures with special thumb and finger techniques to massage specific areas on the feet which correspond to body parts. Reflexology promotes relaxation and the elimination of body toxins and aims to bring the ‘whole’ person to a state of equilibrium.
The ancient art of herbalism as practised by many civilisations over thousands of years is now enjoying an exciting revival. More and more people are turning away from conventional health treatments and drugs with side effects, towards natural remedies. When used by a qualified herbalist, herbs are powerfull but safe healers; nature has provided us with a treasure chest of medicinal plants for our use.
Spiritual healing has a very old history and, nowadays, specifically denotes that type of healing – contact or absent – which is practised by the National Federation of Spiritual Healers. Such healers do not belong to a particular religion, but all believe we are basically and most importantly spiritual beings. It is also accepted by the British Medical Association as an adjunct to orthodox medical treatment. A healer channels a divine or cosmic energy which they are then able to make available to those who need it. They, themselves, do not do the healing.
